Google SearchWiki a favourite of contestants

Blue Jumper In Irish, calling themselves Geansai Gorm, have spotted that Google SearchWiki is being used by the SEO contestants to move themselves up the ranks or more importantly move other competitors down the Google SERPs; in a post entitled: "Geansai Gorm competition gets bitchy".

The first female entrant, Aoife Ni Chionnaith, with bluejumpercompetition

Aoife is looking for participation on her website: "If you have a geansai gorm experience, geansai gorm would really like to hear your story…..". I’m not sure you’ll get any link love.

Kae Flexes his file manager

Yep, those sneaky links are appearing everywhere.  Checkout the bottom of the homepage for "Kae’s File Manager" (http://kfm.verens.com/).  Surprise surprise it’s got "Geansai Gorm" in the link text, but interestingly it links to "verens.com" - not to his entry which is kaesometimeswearsbluejumper.  He’s taking the friend of friend approach.

An “illegal” site on Wordpress?

Despite a declaration that any blogs set up specifically for Geansai Gorm would be zapped, by Donncha (in a comment on Damien Mulley’s website) - bluejumper.info (aka Keith Donegan) has set one up.  Perhaps he didn’t see Donncha’s comments.

Keith also seems related to http://dairybuzz.com/ (a MFA blog) although the domain seems to be owned by a person from India.  Maybe there’s a reciprocal relationship there.

Boyd Harrison of Pro.ie launches blue-jumper.com - the entry from Waterford

Boyd Harrison of Pro.ie launches blue-jumper.com - the entry from Waterford.  While the domain was registered as early as the 31 October, it has only started appearing in the SERP’s more recently. Judgin from the links on pro.ie’s homepage, Boyd has been trying his hand at SEO for a while now.

Update on the positions

It seems now that every 36 hours google is switching the rankings quite dramatically.  Taskdrop is currently at first place, followed by mybluejumper.com, and then bluejumperireland is in 3rd.  Personinireland is 4th and greybandit is in 5th.

It seems that positions 1 to about 8 are changed almost randomly (although positions 3,4,5,6 seem to be sharing the middle places).

Page rank doesn’t seem to have kicked in yet, with relevancy and recency forming the basis of the order. The big question is whether page rank will kick in before the finish date.  My guess is that it will and that over the last week or so you will have much smaller movements between the top 5.

Exclusive: ggwinner may not be a new domain…

The very mysterious entrant, ggwinner, owned by Mr. X with an address "somewhere" in Ireland, may have a problem.  It appears that ggwinner is not new.  This can be verified here:http://www.prtag.com/expired-domains-archive_W0yZZ2008QQmZZ6QQdZZ8QQsZZ2.htm and here in the most excellent site by jmcc:  http://www.hosterstats.com/historicaldns.php?domain=ggwinner.com .  However the domain did expire, so it was indeed newly registered and this may allow it qualify.  Mr Mulley will have to make a call on this, should gg get to the top. There are obvious advantages if the domain previously had a large number of inbound links. Re-registering the domain can power up those links and help enormously.  However in the case of gg it doesn’t appear that there are a significant amount of inbound, if any - as this search shows: http://www.google.ie/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&q=link%3Awww.ggwinner.com&btnG=Search&meta=

My own feeling is that no advantage has been gained, the domain is newly registered, so it probably should be allowed.  Any other opinions?

BlueJumpers Dot Net

What a difference an "s" makes.  http://www.bluejumpers.net/ - yes it’s plural.  It’s by a chap called Raul Dore.  Bluejumper dot net was already gone, so Raul went out and got himself the plural form. Vă doresc cel mai bun de noroc!  Best of Luck Raul.

Michele has dot info and dot mobi

Michele Neylon has booked geansaigorm.info and geansaigorm.mobi - presumably he’s about join in.  Could be unbeatable with those 2 weapons.

GeansaiGorm Dot Biz

The sharks are out.  Someone has registered Geansai_Gorm Dot Biz which clearly is not eligible for the competition itself, but can be used to send traffic that way. They have done a private registration, possibly to hide their identity, but also it may be possible that they believe they will get a higher ranking as Google prefers protected domain names (I’m not sure whether this is the case).  Cleverly they hope to recoup some of their outlay on the domain with some google ads.
